About

Samuhik Vivah

Marriage is one of the most important aspects of a person's life and adds a new identity to their personality. In a society that associates marriage with the financial status of a person, tying the nuptial knot is difficult for people belonging to the lower strata.

In India, marriage ceremonies are tougher for the bride’s family, and girls belonging to poor families are often neglected in the orthodox construction of weddings. Here’s where Dr. Archika Didi and Vishwa Jagriti Mission come to the rescue of such deserving girls. From time to time, mass marriages, or Samuhik Vivaha, are organized by the foundation.

History

Starting in 2000, Vishwa Jagriti Mission (VJM) initiated mass marriage ceremonies to support couples who couldn't afford weddings.

Initially a small event, it has since grown significantly, now serving hundreds of couples annually, providing a communal celebration and reducing financial burdens on families. Mission has organized mass marriages for more than 100 girls between 2015 and 2023.

Overview

Mass marriages are organized for girls from financially weaker sections, and some of these events are organized in collaboration with other charitable institutes.

There is a strong emotion behind organizing mass marriages, and that is to promote the idea of belonging among families and unity and strength in the community.

Wedding rituals and ceremonies are taken care of, and girls belonging to poor families are married to the groom selected by their families. Such ceremonies not only help the women get a new family and identity but also boost their confidence. Samuhik Vivaha ceremonies are organized across divisions of the Vishwa Jagriti Mission across the country, under the guidance of Dr. Archika Didi.

The aim of mass marriage ceremonies is to support financially disadvantaged couples by reducing wedding costs, fostering community solidarity, and promoting social equality through a shared celebration.

Our aim is to touch those families who cannot afford the incurred cost in a marriage.
